A seminar titled "The Development of Type from Past to Present" was held within our university's Technical Sciences Vocational School (TBMYO). Lecturer Ertuğrul Erbey, Head of the Graphic Design Program in the Design Department, was the speaker. The seminar was attended by Dr. Fatih Şevgin, Director of the TBMYO, as well as department heads, academic staff, and students.
The seminar examined the historical process of type, providing a detailed explanation of its evolution from cuneiform to today's digital typography. Lecturer Ertuğrul Erbey emphasized how type went beyond being merely a means of communication; it played a transformative role in the development of civilizations and represented a turning point.
The seminar also emphasized the strong relationship between the historical development of typography and visual communication design. Lecturer Erbey stated that the formal characteristics of typefaces directly affect how a message is perceived, making typographic knowledge an essential element for individuals working in the field of visual communication. Speaking at the end of the seminar, Dr. Fatih Şevgin expressed his satisfaction with the event and thanked Lecturer Ertuğrul Erbey, all the academic and administrative staff who attended the seminar, and the students for their contributions.
