In the event organized for students within the scope of "Muş Şehit Yücel Kurtoğlu GSL Career Days" events, in collaboration with our University's Technical Sciences Vocational School (TBMYO) and Muş Şehit Yücel Kurtoğlu Fine Arts High School (GSL), a typography workshop was held with the theme of "Development of Writing from the Past to the Present".
The workshop, which was held at the Muş Şehit Yücel Kurtoğlu GSL Graphic Design Workshop with the presentation of TBMYO Design Department faculty member Lecturer Ertuğrul Erbey, was held with the participation of students studying in the field of plastic arts. In addition to learning the historical development of writing, students also had the opportunity to do practical work on the anatomical structures of letters during the workshop.
Lecturer Ertuğrul Erbey emphasized during the workshop that the discovery of writing was one of the most important turning points in human history and stated the following: “The invention of writing revolutionized the way humanity communicated, made it possible to transfer information between cultures and accelerated the development of civilizations. The origins of writing date back to the Sumerians in Mesopotamia, approximately 5,000 years ago. The Sumerians developed cuneiform, which laid the foundations of written language and led to revolutionary progress in areas such as commerce, law, science, and literature. The development of writing accelerated the intellectual evolution of humans and transformed social structure. Today, writing has gone beyond being a mere means of communication and has become a cultural heritage.” Instructor Erbey, who conducted an application study with students on typography and Neosax, said in his statements before the application, “NEOSAX is a font family that draws attention with its minimalist design. It offers high readability with its sans-serif features and has an important place in the design world. It is especially preferred in digital and printed media designs because it provides both a modern and stylish appearance. This font can be used in all types of designs thanks to its simple design and adapts to different projects. Its high readability feature allows texts to be easily understood, which makes the job of designers easier. I consider it an opportunity for our students to gain experience in the field of writing with these application studies. He stated, “I would like to thank the High School Principal Turhan Sur for his efforts in the coordination process of the career days event and the students who participated, as well as the TBMYO Principal Dr. Lecturer Fatih Şevgin for his cooperation support.” This information helped the students to understand both the aesthetic and functional aspects of typography more deeply. The workshop ended after the questions from the students were answered and a group photo was taken.
